There are moments in life that split your story in two: before and after.

For me, that moment came at age 40 — when I lost my wife to leukemia the day after Christmas in 1979. Just days later, I lost my job of 18 years. In the middle of a recession. Overnight, I became a widowed father of four with no income and no roadmap forward.

What followed was not a quick recovery, but a long, deeply human journey — one of learning how to grieve, how to lead with love, how to find strength I didn’t know I had, and how to choose hope again.

Over two decades later, I’ve written Always At Choice — a book for people who’ve faced profound loss or trauma and are now asking: What now? How do I move forward? How do I find joy again?

The answer is yes — and it begins with understanding that you are at choice.

Today, I share my story and lessons to support others navigating transitions of their own — whether that’s grieving a spouse or job loss, recovering from trauma, or simply longing to feel alive again after years of surviving.
